Give Dad a New Throne To Celebrate Father’s Day!

Dad’s are the king of the castle. And every king has his accessories, right? The remote is his scepter, the baseball cap his crown, and of course, the toilet is every king’s throne. So what father wouldn’t want a newer, more comfortable throne for his bathroom duties? But how exactly do the kids even go about picking out the new “throne” for dad’s bathroom? Find all the answers anyone could need for deciding when it’s time for a new toilet and how to pick it here!

Signs It’s Time for a Toilet Change

toilet So maybe the kids aren’t so sure it’s time to change up the throne room? Well, look out for these signs - if one or more has shown up, it’s likely time for a toilet replacement.
  • Clogs: An occasional toilet clog is perfectly normal. However, when clogs become commonplace, to the point where the toilet experiences one every week or so, it means the toilet isn’t up to regular work anymore.
  • Cracking: Sure, some kings may have gold-plated toilets, but most toilets are made of porcelain. And unfortunately, porcelain is prone to cracking. While a plumber may occasionally be able to repair cracked porcelain, in general, cracked toilets need replacing.
  • Age & Repairs: Like all things, toilets experience more breakdowns and inefficiency as they age. Toilets older than ten years are prone to water waste and malfunctioning parts, while toilets older than twenty years are known to waste up to seven gallons of water per flush and require frequent repairs.
  • Expensive Water Bills: As previously mentioned, older toilets waste water. As toilets grow more inefficient, water bills skyrocket. Replacing an older toilet will improve the water bill, meaning the king’s wallet will save a little money, too!

“Throne” Options for Every Bathroom!

Toilets have come a long way from their first iterations as outhouses in ancient Greece. These days, modern toilets are more comfortable, water-efficient, and come in plenty of shapes and colors to suit every bathroom.

Popular toilet models include the traditional round bowl and the newer oval bowl shape. Round bowls are smaller and better for compact bathrooms, but oval shapes are by far more comfortable. Additionally, new toilets come in varying heights, with taller toilets providing a more comfortable seating arrangement.

For homes looking to provide dad with extra comfort and save him some money, consider installing a low-flow toilet. Low-flow toilets are super-efficient, using less than 2 gallons of water per flush. Homes can save 13,000 gallons of water a year just by installing a new throne for dad in the bathroom!

Buying a Toilet? Remember To Measure!measure

When shopping for father’s day thrones, remember to shop smarter. Toilets are not a one-size-fits-all plumbing fixture. Toilet dimensions need measuring using the old toilet as a guide. Before replacing an old toilet, measure the rough-in: the distance between the wall and the center of the bolts holding the toilet to the floor. Most rough-ins range between 10-14 inches, with the most common size being 12 inches. The new toilet must have the exact rough-in measurement to provide the proper fit for dad’s new throne.

When shopping for dad’s new throne, consider reaching out to a plumbing expert for assistance. They can do the measuring, buying, and installing to make father’s day gifting effortless!
